When we created RocketHands we got in touch with a bunch of people we know, from savvy local investors, Internet entrepreneurs and industry-insiders. One of these is now acting as advisor for our little venture, and he gave us the following ultimatum: "Do these three things... totally NAIL them, and I'll speak to you again". Yes, dear reader, we've been given our first quest.

For the curious among you, the three tasks are given below.

  1. Get yourself a bizdev person IMMEDIATELY. It's crazy that you're learning how to do all these things from scratch. Such a massive opportunity cost - you should be focused on creating awesome games. Once you have this person, many of your problems will magically go away.
  2. Ask yourselves WHY you're doing this. Is it to be creative, or is it to make money? Because investors want to make money, so if you have the same goal as them, then you'll start on good terms. Write your vision statement.
  3. Pitch me a game that gets me EXCITED. You don't need to design it to death, or write a prototype or demo: just give me a high-level concept that's exciting and interesting and innovative and creative and fantastic.

Afterwards, he emphasised that, although we might be up against big obstacles, and may question our sanity, people HAVE DONE THIS. One day they've been down the pub, drinking pints and talking about a game idea, and the next thing they know (after conveniently forgetting years of hard work), they find themselves standing on the peak of Mt. Everest, basking in the glory of having built a succesfull company that makes amazing games.

Quite motivational, all that. So you'll notice we now have seven members, we have a "vision", and - well, you probably won't notice this last bit - we have a great high-level concept document for a game that excites the bejeesus out of us!

Bring on Quest #2, I say. And so say all of us...
